Liebherr 125 K Set Up On Third Floor To Complete Construction Of Eight-Storey Residential Building

Extreme Construction says it purchased the Liebherr 125 K tower crane with its current project in mind. That project is the construction of an eight-storey residential building in New Rochelle, New York. The project will create more than 180 residential units, 1,900 square metres (20,451 square feet) of commercial space, and a multi-storey parking lot. By positioning the Liebherr 125 K on the third floor, all areas of the construction site are reachable by the crane’s jib, eliminating any need to reposition it throughout the remainder of the building process. The placement on the residential structure also avoids the need to plan out long-term parking and traffic routing, a necessary step with telescopic cranes in many space-constrained jobsites.

Performing All Lifts

The 125 K is the largest of Liebherr’s K-series tower cranes, with a lift capacity of 8,000 kilograms (17,630 pounds); the heaviest lift for this project is around 4,000 kg (8,818 lbs). Hook height on Liebherr’s 125 K is 41.5 m (136 ft), more than enough to support the 37 m (121.3 ft) hook height required on the residential building. The crane also boasts Liebherr’s Load Plus assistance system, which lets operators increase the crane’s lifting load by as much as 20% on demand, and the Litronic control system, which monitors load limits to ensure safety.

“My crane operator Jeff Allen, who has been doing this job since 1984 and has worked for our company since 2008, says that this is the best tower crane he has ever worked with,” says Extreme Construction Managing Director Daniel Bossi. “We used the Load Plus assistance system for the duration of the job.”

Fast To Assemble

Liebherr developed the 125 K with a fast-erecting design that includes the ability to unfold itself with the support of its own drives. Furthermore, Liebherr says the cabin can be assembled without the need for additional tools. The highly-configurable assembly process provides numerous options for operators to select the proper hook height and jib length adjustment.
